Whittier Denver Real Estate
The Homes in Whittier
The bridge area between Curtis Park and Skyland, the Whittier neighborhood is an older Victorian neighborhood with an up-and-coming future. Just north-east of downtown and bordered on the east by Downing Street, the west by York Street, the south by 23rd Avenue and the north by Martin Luther King Boulevard, Whittier Denver real estate is defined architecturally by older Victorian homes, Denver squares and bungalows. Although largely single-family, the neighborhood is home to a good number of flat-roofed row houses, bungalow duplexes and ranch-style apartments.
Also noteworthy are the larger-than-average number of Dutch colonials that grace almost every block. Aesthetically, the streets are wide and separated from the sidewalks by thick plots of grass. Large mature trees define many front yards. Overall, Whittier seems like a neighborhood that is experiencing the early stages of the architectural renaissance currently taking place in Curtis Park. Whittier Denver real estate is listed with zip code 80205. Read More...
Whittier is home to many small parks that include Dr. Daniel Hale Williams Park, Frederick Douglass Park, George Sr Morrison Park and Fuller Park. Although none are as large or diverse as neighboring City Park, with a total of two basketball courts, three playgrounds and a dog park they’re great for picnics, exercising the kids or running the dog. However for a little more diversity try the 320-acre heaven of City Park, which has two lakes, the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a large wood and sand playground, tennis courts and sporting fields. Although there’s not a lot of Main Street-type retail, Whittier is centrally located and has a Light Rail station on the corner of Downing and Welton that’s a direct link to downtown.
Also, with neighbors like Curtis Park, Five Points and Uptown there’s access to everything from the American-contemporary cuisine of Steuben’s to historic Welton Street where Charlie Parker and Billie Holliday haunt the Rossonian Hotel and modern-day musicians stake their claims at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom. To the south Colfax Avenue and to the west Colorado Boulevard are both major thoroughfares leading to I-25, I-70 or both.
Although Whittier Denver real estate seems like an up-and-coming neighborhood it’s not yet experiencing the real-estate boom of neighboring Curtis Park and Five Points.
